The CMA MUSIC FESTIVAL, held last week in NASHVILLE from JUNE 5th-8th was by all accords, a resounding success. The CMA (COUNTRY MUSIC ASSOCIATION) is reporting a 9.4 percent increase in attendance from 2007.
‘Even with gas prices at $4 a gallon and weak economic conditions around the country, we saw an increase in our attendance on every level,’ said CMA CEO TAMMY GENOVESE. The average daily increase was 52,000, up from 48,000 for last year
Some of the acts that wowed the big crowds this year included surprise appearances from RASCAL FLATTS and KEITH URBAN, and KIX BROOKS of BROOKS & DUNN surprised crowds with an unexpected appearance to sign autographs and pose for photos with fans. BIG MACHINE star TAYLOR SWIFT signed autographs in one session for an unprecedented 8-hours straight. JESSICA SIMPSON, recently signed to COLUMBIA/NASHVILLE, made several unannounced appearances during the festival, including the WEDNESDAY Bock Party.
According to the CMA, sales for 2009 are already moving at a brisk pace. For more info, visit www.cmafest.com.
