A congressional committee has approved funding for the CORPORATION FOR PUBLIC BROADCASTING with a $10 million increase for fiscal 2011 if enacted. CPB had requested $483 million for 2011. The panel also OK’d an additional $40 million for digital conversion and $27 million for the public radio interconnection system for 2009.
Commenting on the lawmakers’ action this week, CPB CEO PATRICIA HARRISON said the advance nature of the bill gives them "a measure of certainty in their business planning, interconnection funding as well as an increase in funding for digital conversion."
The bill now goes to the full House Appropriations Committee. It's tentatively scheduled for a vote next week.
