In his keynote address at the CONCLAVE LEARNING CONFERENCE in MINNEAPOLIS on FRIDAY, NAB President/CEO DAVID K. REHR took the occasion to reiterate the need for terrestrial radio to be "evangelical" about the industry.
REHR, saying he is "tired of all the critics of radio," touted the "Radio 2020" public relations initiative and the "Radio Heard Here" marketing campaign and the benefits of radio -- "accessible, portable, and easy to use" -- as part of the NAB's drive to improve radio's image with consumers.
"This is a great business that we need to feel great about," REHR told the audience. REHR also took shots at the FCC's localism proceeding, saying that local service is "in our DNA. .. We don't need the FCC to tell us how." He ripped the movement to institute a performance "tax" on radio, saying the NAB'S momentum on CAPITOL HILL is strong. He also repeated the NAB's opposition to the SIRIUS-XM merger.
