FCC Issues License App, Public File Fines

The FCC has fined VI/MAN BROADCASTING $3,000 for a late license renewal application for Spanish WEGA-A (RADIO LAS VEGAS)/VEGA BAJA, PR. The fine was reduced from $6,000 for good faith attempts to file its application and filing fee on time. Also fined for the same violation was COMMUNITY-FIRST BROADCASTERS, INC. for a late renewal application at Southern Gospel WAMV-A/AMHERST, VA.
The Commission also fined PHOENIX BROADCASTING GROUP, INC. $9,000 for public file violations at Urban KAMJ (K-JAM)/GOSNELL, AR and a separate $9,000 for the same violations at Rock KQDD/OSCEOLA, AR and nailed EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH SCHOOL BOARD with a $14,400 fine for public file violations at Urban Oldies KBRH-A and noncommercial Smooth Jazz WBRH/BATON ROUGE.
In another case. the FCC approved MAPLETON COMMUNICATIONS' applications to reduce the nighttime signal of Sports KGA-A/SPOKANE from 50,000 watts to 15,000 watts to allow its Americana/AAA KPIG-A/PIEDMONT, CA to increase nighttime power from 230 watts to 2,400 watts, over the objection of RAY O'RUSSA. The move will give KPIG more nighttime coverage over the SAN FRANCISCO area.
