Clear Channel, Tribune Offer Differing Views On Suit Settlement

Soon after CLEAR CHANNEL press release and statement on the settlement of lawsuits it filed against TRIBUNE COMPANY and a former CC employee that has since been hired by TRIBUNE, a rather candid press release from TRIBUNE questioned the need for any settlement at all.
CLEAR CHANNEL originally alleged, among other things, that an employee breached his employment agreement with CLEAR CHANNEL and that TRIBUNE unlawfully induced the breach. As part of the settlement, CC claimed that TRIBUNE agreed not to further solicit or hire CLEAR CHANNEL employees who are subject to contracts, in violation of those agreements.
"We are pleased to have reached a settlement with TRIBUNE and our former employees. CLEAR CHANNEL values its employees very highly, and we will continue to enforce our rights against any competitor who attempts to interfere with those contractual relationships," said EVP/Chief Legal Officer ANDY LEVIN.
TRIBUNE SVP/Corporate Relations GARY WEITMAN then responded with the following: "We did nothing wrong here and paid nothing to settle these lawsuits. We have never tortuously interfered with the contracts of CLEAR CHANNEL employees and we won't in the future."
