One day after CLEAR CHANNEL and TRIBUNE COMPANY offered differing views of "settling" a lawsuit over alleged employee poaching, TRIBUNE announced the appointment of former CRITICAL MASS MEDIA Pres. CAROLYN GILBERT as EVP/Multi-Media Sales Group, its recruitment classifieds tele-sales division. Her initial responsibilities include re-vamping and retooling MSG, as well as developing and executing plans for division expansion beyond recruitment advertising.
"Work ethic, intelligence and the ability to get things done quickly and efficiently make CAROLYN a great fit for the new TRIBUNE culture," TRIBUNE COO RANDY MICHAELS said. "I worked with her for 17 years at JACOR, and have absolutely no idea why she'd want to do it again. she knows what she's getting into, and I'm glad she's chosen to do it anyway."
"It's been awhile since I worked for a company whose values match mine -- putting shareholder value, customer satisfaction and employee morale first," GILBERT said. "What we're doing at TRIBUNE isn't easy. But if we're not going to have the wind at our backs, we might as well do it with the people who have them! I trust TRIBUNE management to make decisions for the right reasons, and I trust my coworkers to work toward our common goals. Trust is a wonderful thing to feel again!”
GILBERT, who actually started her new job on JULY 7th, previously filed a lawsuit against CLEAR CHANNEL, parent company of CRITICAL MASS, for non-compete "abuse" (NET NEWS, 6/26). Although her hiring by TRIBUNE, considering both parties' history with CLEAR CHANNEL, inplies that some sort of settlement has been reached between GILBERT and CC, nothing has been announced yet.
