Salem/New York Stunt: 'Frank 97'
August 4, 2008 at 5:26 AM (PT)
SALEM's 970 AM in NEW YORK is stunting into its expected flip to Talk this week, with stage one being all-FRANK SINATRA as "FRANK 97." The stunt started this morning (8/4) and features a station staffer as DJ "JOHNNY SUNSHINE."
The station, under veteran Talk programmer PETER THIELE, is still carrying the WTTT calls picked up in a swap with what is presently Spanish Religion WWDJ-A/BOSTON, but is expected to become Talk WNYM-A (AM 970 THE APPLE) on WEDNESDAY (8/6).
Look for more "formats" before the Talk starts in a few days.
"AM 970 is now broadcasting at 50,000 daytime watts and Team 970 is ready to compete in the greatest city in the world," said SALEM NEW YORK GM SEAN O'NEILL. "Now more listeners in NEW YORK CITY and the tri-state area will be able to hear compelling programming that only AM 970 offers."
THIELE added, "Broadcasting at the daytime power limit of 50,000 watts and reaching nearly 16 million people, we plan to invade the NEW YORK marketplace with a new alternative for listeners and advertisers. WEDNESDAY morning the final countdown will commence to introduce ourselves to NEW YORK. This event will change Big Apple radio the way we know it."
