GUARANTY BROADCASTING/BATON ROUGE OM DAVE DUNAWAY, also the day-to-day PD for Country WYPY tells ALL ACCESS that the stations in his cluster remained on-the-air through the strong winds of HURRICANE GUSTAV. DUNAWAY said that his on-air team did a "fantastic job at keeping the info-flow to the listeners and they continue to do that now.” He added that they were simulcasting much of the time with RAYCOM WAFB-TV 9, which is directly across the street from the GUARANTY studios.
DUNAWAY also tells us that even though the national media is saying that much of the area, especially NEW ORLEANS was spared, BATON ROUGE was hit hard by GUSTAV. “When there are over 737,600 Without power now, and some may not get Power for 2-weeks......Spare me the we were spared.”
DUNAWAY said that his on-air team slept on the floor during their breaks over the weekend and stayed in the studios around the clock to provide crucial information to the listeners. The power companies in the area reportedly have thousands of workers to get power restored to the area, and even with that, it would be weeks until things are back to normal.
The stations in the cluster include Classic Rock WDGL, Country WYPY, Alternative KNXX and Classic Country WTGE.
