Janet Jackson Leaves Island

JANET JACKSON has decided to leave ISLAND DEF JAM RECORDS after 14 months with the label, with an eye on securing a more free-form deal similar to the one MADONNA has with LIVE NATION, the L.A. TIMES reports.
According to a statement released by the JACKSON camp. the singer "will [now] have autonomy over her career, without the restrictions of a label system." Her departure from ISLAND DEF JAM has been hinted at in various media sources, especially after her latest album, "DISCIPLINE," didn't live up to sales expectations.
