WGN's O'Dell: Yep, I'm Retiring
October 13, 2008 at 5:21 AM (PT)
TRIBUNE Talk WGN-A/CHICAGO morning man SPIKE O'DELL confirmed what the market already knew and told listeners he'll be leaving WGN and retiring in DECEMBER. O'DELL told his audience that "somebody else is going to be doing the morning show" after JANUARY 1st, and that he would be finished on the air in the second week of DECEMBER. O'DELL had previously indicated that the two-year contract he signed almost two years ago would be his last.
VP/GM TOM LANGMYER told the CHICAGO TRIBUNE, "Despite our best efforts to delay his dream, we are very happy that SPIKE has been able to achieve his long-time goal. We'll miss his warmth and humor, but most of all, we will miss him personally. He is the genuine article. He is everything you hear on the air, and more."
