CBS Radio Talk WTIC-A (NEWSTALK 1080)/HARTFORD has trimmed its on-air staff, bidding adieu to afternoon-drive show host COLIN MCENROE and morning co-host DIANE SMITH, the HARTFORD COURANT reports. Taking over afternoons is a "news block" anchored by AARON KUPEC and BILL PEARSE, while RAY DUNAWAY hosts mornings solo, with an hour of that shift being used for "Sound Off CONNECTICUT," a call-in talk show hosted by JIM VICEVICH.
SMITH said in a statement that she and management were "exploring ways I might continue as part of the NewsTalk 1080 family," as she is set to host a new weekly series for CONNECTICUT PUBLIC TELEVISION called "CONNECTICUT on the Road" later this year. "I have several other projects underway through my company, DIANE SMITH MEDIA," she told the COURANT. "Most of all, I hope to find new ways to continue my unofficial role as a goodwill ambassador for CONNECTICUT."
The paper also noted that both departing hosts offered a more liberal perspective than DUNAWAY and the syndicated RUSH LIMBAUGH, who is heard from noon-3p."We believe increasing our live news coverage and providing listeners with more ways to interact with the station is the right direction for WTIC to be moving as we all look for ways to better adapt to the changing business environment," CBS/HARTFORD OM STEVE SALHANY said in a news release.
