COX RADIO/HAWAII Chief Engineer CHRIS CAUGHILL and his pilot EIKI MIYASATO escaped major injury after their helicopter crashed on WAIALAE IKI RIDGE on OAHU MONDAY morning. CAUGHILL, who was heading up the mountain to perform maintenance on a transmitter at the radio tower on WILIWILINUI TRAIL, and MIYASATO received only minor injuries in the mishap, in which the chopper lost power, hit the ground and rolled a short distance down the hillside.
"We didn't get any warning," CAUGHILL told the HONOLULU ADVERTISER. "I was looking at the landing spot, then all of a sudden, I was dangling upside down, suspended by my seat belt and looking at the sky. It was so fast."
