January 8, 2009 at 5:47 AM (PT)
The worst recession in decades will make 2009 a gloomy year for TV GUIDE, premium cable channels and SIRIUS XM SATELLITE RADIO, some of WALL STREET's most seasoned media analysts say. And now, USA TODAY is giving it's readers a chance to join in the downturn fun by entering a "Media Prognostication Contest."
We're not sure if this is in good fun or rubbing salt in the wound -- but check out this question included in the contest:
2. Which of these companies will be sold or file for bankruptcy protection by DEC. 1st?
a) CBS; b) EMI; c) SIRIUS XM; d) NEW YORK TIMES; e) more than one; f) none.
Another industry-related question makes the contest:
3. LIVE NATION and TICKETMASTER ENTERTAINMENT are going head-to-head in the concert and ticket-sales businesses. Which will deliver the best performance on WALL STREET (measured by 2009 stock appreciation through DEC. 4th)?
a) LIVE NATION; b) TICKETMASTER ENTERTAINMENT.
