PEDRO ROIG, the Director of the U.S. OFFICE OF CUBA BROADCASTING, operator of RADIO and TV MARTI, is staying on at the agency at least temporarily, reports the MIAMI HERALD. ROIG is meeting TODAY with the BROADCASTING BOARD OF GOVERNORS and was asked to stay on for now by the new OBAMA administration.
RADIO and TV MARTI have come under criticisms from both sides in recent times, with Cuban exiles and dissidents complaining that the stations do not show enough about harsh conditions on CUBA and mistreatment of political opponents to the CASTRO regime, while others have criticized the more than $250 million spent on the operation over the past decade.
