CBS RADIO Sports WIP-A/PHILADELPHIA's WING BOWL 17 eating extravaganza will have a special guest: MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL's World Championship Trophy. The World Championship PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES will bring the trophy to WACHOVIA CENTER FRIDAY morning for the annual chicken wing-eating event, with a police escort bringing the trophy to the stage.
Morning co-host and event creator AL MORGANTI set the odds for this year's local-amateurs-only version of WING BOWL, making "DAMAGING DOUG" CANAVIN, who qualifies by eating five sliders in five minutes, the 2-1 favorite, with six others tied at 3-1. Among the 27 qualifiers, DOUG "OBI WING" PETOCK, whose qualifying stunt involved eating whole melons -- skin and rinds included -- while being punched, trails the field at what MORGANTI says are odds of "infinity to one." The event will raise funds for the PHILADELPHIA POLICE DEPARTMENT's Survivor Fund.
