Daschle Withdrawal Leaves Adelstein At FCC

JONATHAN ADELSTEIN is more likely to stick around to complete his term at the FCC now that his former boss, former Sen. TOM DASCHLE (D-SD), has withdrawn from consideration as Secretary of Health and Human Services due to controversy over his problem with back taxes. ADELSTEIN was widely speculated to be ready to jump to HHS to rejoin DASCHLE, but with DASCHLE's nomination off the table, ADELSTEIN is now expected to serve out his term.
If ADELSTEIN stays, the OBAMA administration will need to fill two other slots, a Republican slot and a new open Democratic slot, the latter of which is expected to be filled by likely new Chairman JULIUS GENACHOWSKI.
