Public broadcasting TV/radio station WMFE/ORLANDO is responding to a dramatic loss in revenue with layoffs of 15 people, the cancellation of WMFE-TV’s "The Art’s Connection," and major expense and benefit reductions. The ORLANDO BIZ JOURNAL reports on a release that the reduction represents 28% of the station’s staff
The main casualty at the radio station is WMFE-FM 18-year employee and MD DAVE GLERUM. For WMFE’s remaining staff, they all must take two weeks of unpaid leave during this fiscal year, while the station discontinues its contributions to employees’ 401(k) accounts.
Also being cut back are certain janitorial services, cell phones, supplies and other contracted services. WMFE’s monthly program guide, FMO, will also be downsized.
