WRKO's Carr Helps Suicidal Caller

ENTERCOM Talk WRKO-A/BOSTON afternoon host and BOSTON HERALD columnist HOWIE CARR talked a caller out of committing suicide THURSDAY, imploring, "Don't kill yourself, CAROL. It’s always a bad mistake to kill yourself, CAROL. I’m serious about that. Your family never recovers from a suicide."
In his column in TODAY's HERALD, CARR says that "CAROL" told him she is 54 and has been unemployed for two years and can't afford her $414.21 per month mortgage. She said she had attempted suicide last FEBRUARY by taking 100 pills but was saved by her daughter, and was now thinking about it again. After initially attempting to calm her down with humor, CARR told her about the effect of a suicide on the deceased's family, then, after ending the call, talked about his own maternal grandfather's 1931 suicide and the effect on his mother's family.
