INDIANA engineering subcontractor GARY DENNIS HUNT faces three years in prison after pleading no contest last WEDNESDAY to a charge that he ignited the 2007 fire that scorched the landscape on SANTA CATALINA ISLAND and threatened the city of AVALON. HUNT was cutting a cable at the transmitter site of CRAWFORD Religion KBRT-A/AVALON-LOS ANGELES when his torch set brush ablaze; the island had been under a fire danger warning and ban on open flames. The fire caused about $20 million of damage.
HUNT entered his plea in Superior Court in LONG BEACH and will be sentenced in MAY. A felony count was dismissed in the proceeding.
