Minor league baseball's WEST MICHIGAN WHITECAPS ink STEVE LLOYD-JONES as the team's new play-by-play announcer, replacing DAVE SKOCZEN alongside color commentator DAN ELVE in the booth.
LLOYD-JONES served as color commentator for the team in 2002-04; he co-hosted afternoons on WHITECAPS flagship CITADEL Sports WBBL-A/GRAND RAPIDS and worked at SPORTS SPECTRUM RADIO in 2002-06. His play-by-play experience includes GRAND RAPIDS HOOPS minor league basketball, EAST GRAND RAPIDS HIGH SCHOOL football, and GRAND RAPIDS COMMUNITY COLLEGE football, CORNERSTONE UNIVERSITY basketball, and will continue as the voice of GRAND VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY men's and women's basketball and color commentator for GVSU football.
"The game of baseball has always been a passion of mine, so to be able to be involved with professional baseball coverage is very exciting," said LLOYD-JONES. "I’ve followed the WHITECAPS for more than a decade and have always admired how they do things and the way I’ve been treated when working there, so now to become the team’s radio voice is an honor and a big thrill. I grew up wanting to become a pro baseball player, and when the opportunity to play ended and the broadcast career took over, I never lost sight of my dream of wanting to be in baseball on a regular basis. I love my job with GRAND VALLEY and I wouldn’t want to give that up, but the WHITECAPS job is a big deal for me and I’m very grateful for this opportunity."
