CAPITOL/NASHVILLE star KEITH URBAN and his wife, NICOLE KIDMAN, are among the celebrities who have donated money to aid victims of this week's deadly fires in AUSTRALIA. KEITH and NICOLE contributed $327,000 ($500,000 AUSTRALIAN dollars) in donations during the NINE NETWORK's AUSTRALIA UNITES TELETHON yesterday (2/12).
NICOLE said: "As AUSTRALIANS, I think the biggest thing is that, no matter where you are in the world, we support each other and we rally. That's why we wanted to show our support and we would like to donate 500,000 AUSTRALIAN dollars on behalf of our family to the families that need it now."
KEITH added: "Our hearts go out tonight to all the families that are dealing with the loss of loved ones and having to rebuild their lives again."
Other celebrities who helped rally public support included RUSSELL CROWE, HUGH JACKMAN, NAOMI WATTS, ORLANDO BLOOM, MEL GIBSON, ELLEN DeGENERES and K.D. LANG. So far the telethon has raised over $50 million to those affected in the fires, which have killed 181 people, destroyed thousands of homes and left several thousand people homeless.
