WTKK's Graham Busted For Insurance Non-Renewal... Where He Didn't Live Anymore

GREATER MEDIA Talk WTKK/BOSTON middayer MICHAEL GRAHAM had an interesting topic for TODAY's show: the story of how he got arrested early in the morning for not renewing his car insurance in his former home state.
The BOSTON HERALD's JESSICA HESLAM reports that GRAHAM was pulled over in FRAMINGHAM, MA for a red light violation and, when the officer ran his plate, the system said that his driver’s license had been revoked for "insurance issues" that turned out to be non-renewal in VIRGINIA after he moved to MASSACHUSETTS to join WTKK in late 2005. His driving record has been clean throughout his residency in MASSACHUSETTS.
"I was pulled for a minor traffic infraction," writes GRAHAM on his blog, "and was astonished when the officer informed me that the (REGISTRY OF MOTOR VEHICLES) had revoked my drivers license. I don't know when and I don't know why, because I -- like so many MASSACHUSETTS drivers -- was never told by the RMV. If I had been, I would have had the opportunity to address whatever issue they have without the expense of being towed, or the unpleasantness of going to jail."
RMV spokesperson ANN DUFRESNE said GRAHAM's license in MASSACHUSETTS was revoked in NOVEMBER because VIRGINIA notified the National Driver Registry that his license there had been revoked because he had not paid his car insurance as of JUNE 2006 (GRAHAM obtained his MASSACHUSETTS license in FEBRUARY 2006). DUFRESNE said that a letter had been sent on OCTOBER 9th with no response. GRAHAM notes that while he personally could not obtain his driving information from the RMV after the arrest, the department was "happy to give it to members of the media," namely his HERALD colleague HESLAM.
After recounting his experience with the police, jail, and the bureaucracy, GRAHAM writes, "And for this the RMV is sending me to jail? Yes, I confess, I confess it all. I stopped paying car insurance in VIRGINIA when I STOPPED LIVING THERE! When I got my license, registration and insurance in MASSACHUSETTS! You caught me, coppers -- but you'll never take me alive!!!!"
