Other CBS Format Wheels To Spin?
This news comes on the heels of reports of changes at other underperforming stations -- with the NEW YORK and LOS ANGELES markets the subject of rumors of format flips to Top 40, this FRIDAY (2/20). CBS has declined comment.
ALL ACCESS sources tell us Talk KLSX/LOS ANGELES -- a rumored format change candidate -- has seen tremendous growth in its target demo of Men 25-54 over the last several months. KLSX is as high as No. 2 overall and No. 1 English-language in some key dayparts in recent PPM weeks.
KCBS-FM (JACK) was also the subject of one report -- but that station is consistently a Top 10 performer in demo -- and has also been the No. 2 biller in the L.A. cluster.
One other publication actually went as far as to say CLEAR CHANNEL should take Alternative KYSR and bring back the "INDIE" brand jettisoned by ENTRAVISION on 103.1. Considering the fact INDIE had a 0.5 when it went away and KYSR is closing in on KROQ in key demos (and right around a 3.0 share) -- this scenario seems highly unlikely.
Meanwhile, PPM results for Rock WXRK/NEW YORK have been less than favorable -- with the station trailing CLEAR CHANNEL Classic Rock rival WAXQ -- while staying slightly ahead of EMMIS Triple A WRXP in key demos. Sister AC WWFS has been up and down -- but generally competitive in the marketplace.
And, speaking of potential new CBS Top 40s, other markets that are being speculated about: BOSTON, DETROIT, SAN FRANCISCO, and BALTIMORE/WASHINGTON, D.C. among others.
