Carolla Muses On Shapes Of Things To Come In NYC
February 20, 2009 at 1:11 PM (PT)
On his last show this morning (2/20) at CBS Talker KLSX/LOS ANGELES, a candid ADAM CAROLLA went over a series of events that led to the demise of his show and the station, which flips to Top 40 at 5p (PT) TODAY (2/20) as "97.1 AMP RADIO," (NET NEWS 2/18).
CAROLLA said at one point, that the staff at KLSX was informed in late 2008 that a format flip might happen, and after a ratings increase in the PPM numbers gave the staff hope for a reprieve: "I, unfortunately, knew otherwise ... because they were speaking to me about going to NEW YORK, possibly bringing the show to NEW YORK to start anew ... Now, I was aware that it was a done deal. Everyone else had their fingers crossed."
They're doing some flipping over there (in New York), I hope they're aware of it because I'm talking about it now.
He added, "A couple of weeks later, the NEW YORK offer was pulled off the table ... they're doing some flipping over there (in NEW YORK), I hope they're aware of it because I'm talking about it now. I was told that everyone's aware of what's going on, I'm not mentioning the specific station for a reason. CBS is making sweeping changes, flopping and flip-flopping formats...."
No doubt he's referring to Rocker WXRK/NEW YORK, where syndicated duo OPIE & ANTHONY currently hold down wakeups. WXRK wasn't in the PPM 6+ Top 20 with their 1.5 share during the HOLIDAY 2008 survey.
CBS has declined to comment on CAROLLA's remarks. If/when CBS makes the move in DA BIG APPLE, don't look for it TODAY, as many have rumored. One CBS insider told ALL ACCESS, "All eyes are focused toward LOS ANGELES, and the launch of 97.1 AMP RADIO."
However, ALL ACCESS has noted a "private registration" for 923amp.com, that was set up TODAY, (2/20), but currently has no content.
CAROLLA also took some parting shots in print. See them here, courtesy of the L.A. TIMES.
