An exclusive partnership between CBS RADIO's PHILADELPHIA cluster and the AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY's COACHES VS. CANCER campaign has resulted in crosstown GREATER MEDIA Sports WPEN-A (950 ESPN)/PHILADELPHIA host MIKE MISSANELLI saying he was uninvited to the charity's MARCH 16th tip-off breakfast event.
MISSANELLI told the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER's MICHAEL KLEIN that he had been invited to be a panelist at the breakfast, scheduled for the PALESTRA, the UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA's college basketball mecca, but was later informed that he would not be permitted to participate. 950 WPEN's JODY MCDONALD was part of the event last year alongside CBS rival HOWARD ESKIN of Sports WIP-A.
"It's a little disappointing they couldn't separate business from charity," MISSANELLI, a former WIP personality, said about CBS, "but it's amusing how scared they are of us."
CBS Market Manager MARC RAYFIELD told KLEIN, "We take all competition seriously. Our relationship with COACHES VS. CANCER is cluster-wide and not specific to any station or personality."
