Imus Threatens Severin ... Who Doesn't Get The 'Joke'

Syndicated morning host DON IMUS threatened to shoot WTKK/BOSTON host JAY SEVERIN during this morning’s ST. PATRICK’S DAY broadcast. Both IMUS and SEVERIN confirmed the confrontation to the BOSTON HERALD, which occurred shortly after 6a when SEVERIN "went up on the WILBUR THEATRE stage during a commercial break to say hello to friends ... who are members of IMUS' morning cast.
Reportedly, SEVERIN and IMUS exchanged greetings before SEVERIN walked away to talk to his friends. IMUS producer/sidekick BERNARD MCGUIRK called SEVERIN over because IMUS wanted to talk to him. When he did, IMUS went on "a profanity-laced rant," berating SEVERIN for previously telling THE HERALD and his listeners that he would no longer appear on IMUS' show in the future because he was tired of being insulted by the morning host.
IMUS then told SEVERIN to get off the (expletive) stage or "I'm going to shoot you" -- more than once, which stunned several observers. IMUS spokesman MATTHEW HILTZIK told THE HERALD that IMUS said it in jest. "This is one of the most desperate attempts for attention that I have ever seen," HILTZIK said. "He was obviously joking -- it was a figure of speech. And just for the record, DON is not very good at shooting people with his pencil."
GREATER MEDIA released a statement calling the IMUS' actions "unfortunate ... JAY attempted to express his good wishes to DON, as he has on many occasions during the last several months. DON's reaction was unfortunate, and we trust that he will rectify the situation." the statement said.
