Online Music Purchasing Up -- Now For The Bad News

According to a new report by the NPD GROUP, a market research company for the entertainment industry, CD sales were down by 17 million consumers in 2008, but at the same time users paying for digital music increased by just over 8 million in 2008 to 36 million Internet users.
Purchases of online digital music downloads increased by 29% since last year; they now account for 33% of all music tracks purchased in the U.S.
The cloudy news is that only 58% of Internet users reported purchasing CDs or digital music downloads last year, versus 65% in 2007. The report shows consumers spending less on all entertainment in general.
