Rap superstar T.I.'s road to redemption has finally taken a detour to prison, reports THE NEW YORK DAILY NEWS. The GRAMMY-award winning artist was sentenced FRIDAY in ATLANTA to one year and one day behind bars on a bevy of federal gun charges.
T.I., whose real name is CLIFFORD HARRIS, was cuffed two years ago after attempting to purchase thousands of dollars worth of unregistered guns and silencers. The rapper wasn't allowed to own a gun because of a 1998 felony drug conviction. T.I. pleaded guilty to the gun charges in MARCH of last year but was not immediately sentenced.
At the hearing, the rapper apologized for his mistakes and said he would learn from his time in lockup. "Today I would like to say thank you to some, and apologize to all," said the "Live Your Life" rapper, who wore a suit and tie. "Everything I learned was through trial and error," HARRIS said. "I've learned lessons in my life to put in my music so people won't make the same mistakes as I."
