MERIDIAN Talk WINK-A-WNOG-A (WINK NEWS RADIO)/FORT MYERS-NAPLES morning host MANDY CONNELL is organizing the FORT MYERS Tax Day Tea Party on APRIL 15 to allow local residents to register their outrage over the federal government's spending in the stimulus bill and budget. The event, organized by CONNELL and LEYD BACK MARKETING and featuring a performance by DUE SOUTH, will take place in downtown FORT MYERS' CENTENNIAL PARK 5-7p on the 15th.
"Tea parties," at which citizens send tea bags to politicians as a protest, have been staged across the country, inspired by the now-famous rant by CNBC's RICK SANTELLI about the government's response to the economic meltdown.
CONNELL said, "We knew people were angry about the way our tax dollars are being wasted by Congress, but the response to this event has been truly overwhelming. I think people are really excited to have an outlet for their frustration and a way to get their voices heard.... This is a chance for like-minded folks who believe this country’s greatest asset is the people, to remind Washington that it’s government for the people, not the other way around."
