McKay Exits WXTU To Open Consultancy; Baldwin Named PD
April 1, 2009 at 4:54 AM (PT)
BEASLEY Country WXTU/PHILADELPHIA legendary PD BOB McKAY, who had planned to retire later this year and open his consultancy, has advanced those plans, effective APRIL 10th. He's replaced at WXTU by sister Top 40/Rhythmic WRDW (WIRED 96.5) PD LEO BALDWIN, who will program both stations.
VP/Market Mgr. NATALIE CONNER said, "As hard as it is for me to close this chapter, it's also exciting to let you all know that BOB will open his new consultancy business with XTU as his first client. I couldn't be more thrilled and at the same time, confident that XTU will continue to be steered with the magic of BOB McKAY.
"As one door closes, another one always opens. I am also pleased to announce our next promotion at BEASLEY/PHILADELPHIA as our own LEO BALDWIN will take over the reigns as PD of 'XTU as well as continue his PD duties at WIRED. His dedication and expertise have allowed WIRED to navigate successfully in a very competitive PPM world and I know that LEO will take that same WIRED energy and creativity to all aspects of 'XTU."
McKAY noted, "I will spare you a long soliloquy. Suffice it to say, the past 10 years have been the apex of my career. The talent at 'XTU is unequaled. It has been my pleasure working with each of you. We are one of the very best radio stations in the country, and will continue to be."
LEO BALDWIN told ALL ACCESS, "This is a very challenging and unique opportunity for me. Anytime you can follow a legend like BOB McKAY, who will remain as our consultant and help me navigate the ropes of this exciting format, is a real plus.
"While BOB's last day will be FRIDAY APRIL 10th, I will be soaking up his knowledge. WXTU is an amazing station -- it's the Z100 of Country music -- and BOB and the team have built a legendary facility, that I'm very happy and proud to help guide."
