A despondent, suicidal man who engaged sheriff's deputies in a standoff in METARIE, LA this morning called MICHAEL CASTNER and ROBYN WALENSKY's show on CLEAR CHANNEL Talk WRNO (RUSH RADIO 99.5)/NEW ORLEANS before the incident.
The NEW ORLEANS TIMES PICAYUNE reports that the man called CASTNER threatening suicide, but while CASTNER contacted police, the caller hung up. After CASTNER went on the air with a request (sans details) for the man to call again, the caller did so twice, talking with PD JIM FISHER for an hour about his job loss and disability issues while police tried to trace the call and find the man.
He was located on a street in suburban METARIE, where the police and the man ended up in a standoff before he surrendered peacefully. The unidentified man was not charged with a crime, but was taken to the hospital for treatment.
