The PITTSBURGH PENGUINS are launching their own HD RADIO channel in SEPTEMBER, devoted to programming about the NHL team and hockey in general. "PITTSBURGH PENGUINS RADIO" will air on the HD-2 channel of the team's flagship, CLEAR CHANNEL Alternative WXDX (105.9 THE X)/PITTSBURGH, in a joint venture with the station as part of the PENGUINS' new six year deal with WXDX. The channel follows the announcement of a similar station being launched by the DALLAS COWBOYS and CBS RADIO Sports KRLD-F (105.3 THE FAN)/DALLAS.
"The PENGUINS always are looking for new ways to deliver unique content to the greatest fans in hockey, and we’re excited now to be the first team to venture into the world of 24/7 HD RADIO," said PENGUINS' SVP of Corporate Sales DAVE SOLTESZ.
"We are thrilled that the PENGUINS have embraced the NHL team-branded audio concept," said NHL RADIO Director GREGG BALDINGER. "I can imagine that one of the pre-set radio choices for every PENGUINS fan is going to be PITTSBURGH PENGUNS RADIO."
On the station's planned live, local weekday show, SOLTESZ said, "It won’t be your ordinary talk show by any means. The format of this show will be high energy, covering a variety of intriguing topics. PENGUINS fans are everywhere -- on TWITTER, FACEBOOK, texting, listening, watching -- looking for any information on our team and players. That’s what this show will be about."
Among other programming, the station will air NHL RADIO's "NHL LIVE" and Commissioner GARY BETTMAN's weekly show, heard on XM SATELLITE RADIO's NHL HOME ICE channel, plus WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON PENGUINS minor league games and classic PENS broadcasts.
