Longtime WXXI PUBLIC BROADCASTING COUNCIL Classical WXXI-F (CLASSICAL 91.5)/ROCHESTER host SIMON PONTIN is retiring from the station MAY 16 after 33 years. PONTIN, 68, Producer and co-host of the morning "SUNSHINE SHOW" and weekend show "SALMAGUNDY," has been with WXXI since 1976. BRENDA TREMBLAY will fill in after PONTIN's departure until a full-time replacement is named.
"I know that for many public radio listeners, mornings won’t be the same without THE SUNSHINE SHOW," said WXXI President NORM SILVERSTEIN. "He is truly one of ROCHESTER's enduring personalities. In addition to his exceptional programming choices, we will miss SIMON's wit and charm both on and off the air."
"I’ll miss programming the music, but I won’t miss waking at 4 a.m.," said PONTIN. "I appreciate how devoted some of my listeners are, and hardly feel worthy of it. I’ve met many of them over the years, and they are extremely nice people."
