FAMILY LIFE NETWORK/BATH, NY and JONI AND FRIENDS INTERNATIONAL DISABILITY CENTER are collecting non-electric wheelchair donations for WHEELS FOR THE WORLD. WHEELS FOR THE WORLD is an international outreach program that provides restored wheelchairs for disabled people in developing countries.
Used, manually operated wheelchairs are being collected at over 30 drop-off locations across UPSTATE NEW YORK and NORTHERN PENNSYLVANIA. Once collected and repaired, the wheelchairs will be shipped and distributed to disabled people in developing countries around the world. The drive does not accept electric wheelchairs or other special equipment for the handicap such as walkers, standers or geriatric chairs.
"We are overjoyed to partner with JONI AND FRIENDS in support of WHEELS FOR THE WORLD,” said FAMILY LIFE NETWORK Pres. RICK SNAVELY. “Getting involved with this worthy cause means bringing simple joys of mobility and independence to people in need. The cost of one wheelchair could exceed a year’s salary in some of these countries. So to people receiving chairs, the gift of mobility is a dream come true."
