The staff at NORTHWEST COMMUNITIES EDUCATION CENTER Spanish Variety noncommercial KDNA/YAKIMA, WA has ended its strike and will return to work MONDAY after an extended labor action protesting the firing of two staffers. The strike commenced MAY 16th and is ending pursuant to a deal that allows the fired staffers to go to binding arbitration.
"I’m satisfied because we’ve taken a step," striking Program Coordinator SAIDA MARIEL RODRIGUEZ told the YAKIMA HERALD-REPUBLIC. "We hope that all of this ends the way we’ve asked, and that our two former companions will return to work, too."
JORGE LOBOS, who sits on the station's board of directors, told the paper, "This is a good thing because we’ve run into a series of problems with the community, which has been badly informed. What we need to do now is get to work and demonstrate that we’re good and capable of delivering to our community all that we’ve been telling them we can provide -- educational, useful information."
