No 'Fast-Track' For Genachowski, McDowell

An attempt by Senate Democrats to "hotline" the nomination of JULIUS GENACHOWSKI as FCC Chairman and renomination of ROBERT MCDOWELL as Commissioner on FRIDAY was blocked by an unnamed Senator, but remains on track for confirmation by a floor vote as early as this week.
BROADCASTING AND CABLE's JOHN EGGERTON reports that the pair were missing from a list of fast-tracked nominations last week under a procedure that can confirm a nominee without debate or an actual vote.
EGGERTON speculates that Sen. JIM DEMINT (R-SC), the vote against GENACHOWSKI at his nomination hearing last TUESDAY, may have been the Senator to block the fast-tracking, but also notes that committee Chairman JAY ROCKEFELLER (D-WV) has voiced concerns about MCDOWELL's opinions of the school and library Internet E-Rate program that ROCKEFELLER backed.
