Schemmel Named Voice Of CSU Rams

Longtime DENVER NUGGETS broadcaster JERRY SCHEMMEL has been named the new radio voice of COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY football and men's basketball, filling the gap left by the death of RICH BIRCUMSHAW in APRIL. SCHEMMEL, who will continue calling NUGGETS games but whose additional job as coach of METRO STATE baseball may be affected, will also host weekly coaches' shows. CSU football and post-season basketball will take priority over the NUGGETS for SCHEMMEL's services, but the NBA team will have priority over regular-season RAMS hoops. SCHEMMEL will be employed by CSU rightsholder NELLIGAN SPORTS MARKETING.
"Our fans listening over the air and on CSURams.com will have one of the most reputable and well-known announcers in the country painting a picture for them," CSU Athletic Director PAUL KOWALCZYK said. "I'm ecstatic that we've secured an individual with the talents, skills and experience JERRY possesses."
BIRCUMSHAW passed away of a stroke in APRIL at 54. He had served as voice of the RAMS since 2002.
