EMMIS AAA WRXP/NEW YORK gave one lucky listener the chance to say "I'm in the Band" and be the lead singer for 311 on Saturday, JUNE 6/27th at PNC BAND ARTS CENTER. The winner, MEG ALGEO, replaced 311 lead singer NICK HEXUM on-stage during the song’s soundcheck as the rest of the band played backup.
The contest gave RXP listeners the opportunity to upload audio and/or video of themselves singing 311’s latest single, "Hey You," to 1019rxp.com. Contestants were narrowed down to five finalists who sang live on 101.9 RXP’s Rock Show during the morning of THURSDAY, JUNE 25th, in front of a panel of judges that included RXP hosts MATT PINFIELD and LESLIE FRAM; RHETT MILLER (lead singer of OLD 97's); DOUG BROAD (editor of SPIN MAGAZINE); JESSIE MALDONADO (JIVE RECORDS) and RON POORE (ATLANTIC RECORDS).
"The band thought that this was the greatest promotion they've ever done and so do we!" RXP PPD/morning co-host LESLIE FRAM said. "NICK HEXUM even said RHETT MILLER was actually texting him during the contest, writing ‘I am judging for your replacement this morning!”
