The FCC has reduced a fine imposed upon non-com WFCO/LANCASTER, OH, and also offered the station an installment payment plan.
The station, whcih was initially fined $7,500 for running "problematic underwriting announcements" (a.k.a. commercials) during football game broadcasts, claimed that it would have to cease operations due to lack of cash. After reviewing the stations revenues, the Commission cut the fine to $6,000, and they'll accept payment in installments.
There were two announcments that crossed the line, according to the FCC: One for a local lender that touted borrowing flexibility and tax advantages, and one for a hotel that stated "Your best hotel choices are right here at the airport."
