NAB Keeps Adding Sponsors To Local Radio Freedom Act

The NAB continues to solidify opposition to any performance royalty bill by recruiting more Congressman to co-sponsor its Local Freedom Act. Reps. GREGG HARPER and ALAN MOLLOHAN joined the majority of the House, now at 240, to oppose a radio performance royalty. Sen. DAVID VITTER added his name to a similar resolution in the Senate, where sponsors number 20 -- not yet close to a majority.
"Day by day, more lawmakers are saying 'no' to multi-national record conglomerates and saying 'yes' to preserving local radio," said NAB EVP DENNIS WHARTON said. "As the AUGUST Congressional recess approaches, NAB encourages all broadcasters to continue educating Congress on RIAA-backed legislation that would financially cripple radio stations providing free programming to 235 million listeners every week."
