LUFKIN EDUCATIONAL BROADCASTING Christian AC KSWP/TYLER-LONGVIEW, TX and Religion KAVX/LUFKIN, TX are asking listeners for money to help them replace the stations' faulty transmitters, which have been failing several times per day and have been operating at reduced power since breaking about five weeks ago. A message on each station's website beneath a donation button asks, "Would you step out on your deck if you knew all the floor joists were rotten and ready to give way? KSWP is a life line to many people that can't afford Christian radio. Would you respond today with a one time special gift? We've raise (sic) about 29 percent of the need. The transmitters would get replaced and EVERYONE would benefit!"
Promotions Director DREW WILSON told the LUFKIN DAILY NEWS, "At this point, the transmitter is temporarily patched but KSWP is now constantly in danger of being silenced.... We have a lot of listeners who really depend on this station. We're kind of that lifeline and a real connection to CHRIST for a lot of people who don't get it otherwise. The loss of our station puts a lot of people out of touch with an encouraging and positive force in our community." The stations have raised part of the $163,000 needed to replace the transmitters.
