Alabama Station Fined By FCC For Late License Renewal App

IMANI COMMUNICATIONS CORPORATION, INC. has been fined $1,500 by the FCC for a late license renewal application filed for its Urban WBFZ/SELMA, AL. The station blamed its three-months-late filing on the station facilities having burned down. The Commission rejected that excuse and refused to lower the fine for economic hardship reasons because the station did not sufficiently document its financial situation.
The FCC release incorrectly called the station "WBFX," calls that reside on another unrelated station in GRAND RAPIDS, MI.
In addition, JONES COLLEGE noncommercial WKTZ/JACKSONVILLE has been fined $4,500 for airing impermissible commercial advertisements. The school appealed a $5,000 fine for the infractions and got a $500 reduction because one of the "ads" was for a nonprofit and qualified as legal under the rules.
