Anyone hoping for a big recovery in ad spending once the recession ends may be too optimistic, says the forecast for the communications industry from VERONIS SUHLER STEVENSON. VSS sees traditional media continuing to decline. It does, however, forecast paid media providing business information, is poised for sustained growth.
VSS has much of the traditional media outlets declining, including radio, TV, newspapers and magazines.
The communications industry, according to VSS should see total revenue decline 1% in 2009, to $882.6 billion. The future is brighter though, with VSS predicting an annual growth rate of 3.6% from 2008-2013.
If correct, communications would be the third-fastest-growing sector of the economy, behind mining and construction. VSS says Internet, mobile services and subscription TV will lead the growth.
