Pre-Castro Cuban Radio Commentator Jose Pardo Llada Dies

Pre-CASTRO Cuban radio commentator JOSE PARDO LLADA has passed away, reports the MIAMI HERALD. PARDO died FRIDAY in CALI, COLOMBIA of complications from a stomach ulcer at 86.
PARDO became well-known for his coverage of a 1944 hurricane while at CMK-A/HAVANA, then became a noted and influential commentator at UNION RADIO before entering politics, getting elected to the Cuban House of Representatives in 1950. He joined FIDEL CASTRO's guerrillas after the country was taken over in a coup by FULGENCIO BATISTA, but fell out with CASTRO and defected to MEXICO in 1961. He settled in COLOMBIA in 1963 and worked in the newspaper industry, also serving as Ambassador to NORWAY and the DOMINICAN REPUBLIC.
Among his survivors is daughter BERNADETTE PARDO, a commentator on UNIVISION Spanish Talk WQBA-A/MIAMI.
