HIGHWAY RADIO's AC KRXV-KHWY-KHYZ (THE HIGHWAY STATIONS)/BARSTOW-YERMO-NEEDLES, CA has let its entire local airstaff go and is outsourcing on-air announcements to traffic provider RELIANCE BROADCASTING, according to the BARSTOW DESERT DISPATCH.
At least 10 employees, including morning host CORY BAKER and three other full-time announcers, have exited the simulcast, which serves the desert freeways that connect SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA to LAS VEGAS, LAUGHLIN, and northern ARIZONA with music, traffic, weather and information about VEGAS attractions.
VP/GM TIM ANDERSON told the DISPATCH, "We’re not changing the radio station. It’s still traffic and weather." The company's Rock KHDR-KHWZ-KHRQ (THE DRIVE) and Country KIXW-KIXF (HIGHWAY COUNTRY), covering the same areas, were not affected by the changes.
