REALNETWORKS is hoping an app for the iPHONE will bring its RHAPSODY joint venture some much-needed attention as it works to compete with other music services, reports THE WALL STREET JOURNAL. The company announced plans for an iPHONE and iPOD TOUCH app on it's blog, saying the app -- if approved -- will provide its RHAPSODY on-demand streaming music program to current subscribers.
"The big strategic picture for us is we see the world getting more and more connected," RHAPSODY EVP MIKE LUNSFORD said to the JOURNAL, adding that "new technology -- like the iPHONE -- allows users to access music in the cloud and that 'being on a PC is less relevant and being on a mobile platform is more relevant.'"
LUNSFORD said the company is looking to add additional platforms by the end of the year, including the ANDROID and phones by RESEARCH IN MOTION and PALM.
