The Track Gets Indy's Mayor In Hot Water

A radio spot featuring INDIANAPOLIS Mayor GREG BALLARD endorsing ENTERCOM Adult Hits WNTR (107.9 THE TRACK)/INDIANAPOLIS has created controversy, reports WRTV-TV CHANNEL 6. BALLARD is featured in a spot promoting THE TRACK's new three-hour commercial-free format -- but it's the tag line, "We've got all the politicians in our back pocket," that has some people hot and bothered.
Some have called the spot inappropriate, not only because of the message, but because the station's new format led to the company eliminating a local DJ position. "Well, obviously, if he's doing their free advertising, he must be in somebody's pocket," said MARION COUNTY Democratic Chairman ED TREACY.
How excited is Dir. Operations/Programming SCOTT SANDS? "The LEAD story on RTV6 at 6p, 7p and 11p was 'Radio Spot Voiced by Mayor Under Fire!' Yes, believe it or not, the mayor's proclamation that 9a-Noon is commercial free on 107.9 THE TRACK is receiving criticism from his Democratic opponents. We're sorry for the inconvenience this has caused the Mayor -- but ... WOW! We could not have paid for a better two minute spot during three newscasts."
