With the bombshell book and appearance on OPRAH, former "One Day At A Time" star and daughter of MAMAS AND PAPAS leader JOHN PHILLIPS, MACKENZIE PHILLIPS has created a difficult call for stations that play JOHN PHILLIPS' music. Are stations shying away from his music?
CBS Classic Hits WOGL/PHILADELPHIA OF ANNE GRESS told ALL ACCESS, "I think I can speak for WOGL's 1.4 million cume when I tell you we all said one collective 'YUCK!' when we heard MACKENZIE's shocking revelation YESTERDAY. But you know what really, really pisses me off? Now THE MAMAS & THE PAPAS are completely ruined for me. I can't listen to them now without involuntarily shuddering. With that in mind, I've turfed 98.1 WOGL's MAMAS & PAPAS inventory for the time being. It wasn't but a couple songs; we're more about TSOP than 'California Dreamin' here. I may bring back those couple MAMAS & PAPAS songs someday ... but not for now."
CBS Radio VP/Classic Hits Programming and WCBS-F/NEW YORK PD BRIAN THOMAS added he "sent a note to the jocks -- the reaction may come after the OPRAH appearance. We only play one song -- so not a core artist."
