BBC 'Archers' Actor Norman Painting Dies At 85

Radio actor NORMAN PAINTING, a key member of the cast of BBC RADIO 4 soap opera "THE ARCHERS" since its pilot in 1950, passed away at 85 WEDNESDAY night in OXFORDSHIRE after a battle with a heart condition.
PAINTING originated the role of PHILIP ARCHER and played the role until his death, recording a final episode last week that will air NOVEMBER 22nd. He also wrote for the show in 1966-82 and was appointed an OBE in 1976.
