Nielsen: Ad Spending Down 11.5% So Far In '09

NIELSEN's year-to-date advertising spending report showed overall U.S. ad spending down 11.5% to $83.4 billion, with spot radio (off 9.6%) and network radio (off 10.2%) faring better than some other segments. Network TV dropped 13.9%, spot TV fell 12.4%, and syndication TV fell 15.9%; cable TV rose 9.1%, with Spanish-language cable up 36.7&, and free-standing print ad inserts jumped 11.2%.
Among advertising categories, factory and dealer automotive ad spending dropped 30.9%, with local automotive off 26.9%.
